Answer

Both nodes stop a process flow. The difference is how much of the process they stop.

End Event (normal end node)

  1. Ends only the flow path that reaches it.
  2. Other parallel paths in the process model keep running until they reach their own end events.
  3. The process instance completes only after every active path has ended.

Example: with two parallel branches, when one branch reaches an End Event only that branch stops. The other branch continues.

Terminate End Event

  1. Stops the entire process instance immediately, no matter how many paths or sub-processes are still running.
  2. Every active node and sub-process is terminated.
  3. Use it for errors, cancellations, or any condition that makes continuing the process pointless.

Example: if the user cancels an application, a Terminate End Event stops the whole process even while other branches are still running.
