Answer

The production support team runs the final deployment, but I prepare and coordinate it. Our release process looks like this:

  1. Versioned application instances. Each release gets its own application instance, so the first release of 2026 is deployed as APP_NAME_26.1.
  2. One master SQL script. All tables, views, stored procedures and DML for the release go into a single script, which fixes the execution order and cuts manual mistakes.
  3. Deployment order.
  4. Plugins first, so the environment supports the new code.
  5. Then the master SQL script against the production database.
  6. Then the application package: we export the validated package from pre-prod and import it into production.
  7. Maintenance window. Before anything starts we turn on the maintenance window in the Admin Console so users cannot change data mid-migration. After the import we run a smoke test, then switch maintenance mode off.

Every team does this a little differently. What the interviewer wants to hear is that you understand the order of operations and can explain the process clearly.
