Questions Asked
Screening Round:
The first round focused on my current job and some background on the position I was interviewing for. Overall a very short interview seem like my resume passed this section before I even made the call. (My resume included 3 years of Appian development on a small team)
Key questions included:
- What project was I working on and my roles in my team.
- What lead me to work in Appian?
- Have I ever worked on a support desk?
- Almost no technical questions, only questions about my experience, and why I applied and was ready to leave my current company.
Technical Round:
The second round was conducted by 3 people who ended up being my manger, team lead, and one team member, who focused mostly on editing processes nodes, restarting errored processes and on debugging interfaces.
Some of the key questions were:
- How would you restart a errored process?
- How would you edit a process variable of in-flight process?
- What strategies would you use to debug a errored process to find the reason it failed?
- How I would research a errored out interface inside of Appian?
Overall, there were a few technical questions, mostly around editing in-flight process models and error handling. A pretty easy technical interview that could be passed by most developers with a 1 year of experience.
I accepted the job after an offer and worked in the service desk team editing in-flight errored process and and finding bugs in a production environment for over a year before I moved jobs. The job also came with some development of tools to fix common errors in production that lower privileged users could utilize.
This type of position I would not recommend for someone on the developer path as not much development techniques are learned and agile workflow is also ignored and not practiced on a service desk teams.
Preparation Tips
Just brush up on Process Models and how you can edit in-flight instances and best practices on Process Models as well. If you are interviewing for a Service Desk position likely will we be dealing with errored process and some errored interfaces.
